Before software, I spent years in recruitment and business development — hired to build a branch from scratch, and finished my first year at 147% of budget with two company awards along the way. But the part that actually shaped what I do now was being inside dozens of businesses week after week: trades companies, tourism operators, vehicle rental businesses, service businesses right across New Zealand.
That's where I kept seeing the same thing. Good businesses being slowed down by software that didn't fit. Spreadsheets doing jobs they shouldn't be doing. Apps that didn't talk to each other. Manual admin quietly eating through hours every week. People had tried the off-the-shelf fixes — they just didn't stick, because the software was built for the average business, not theirs.
That's why I started Barrass AI.
